	9-11 in the Air

How to write a poem in plane view
	Up 30,000 in the air
	Unattached to frames or bases
Amid pleas for comfort and good cheer

Food, drink and menus naming chefs
Recycled movies on swiveling tiny screens
Reclining outsize chairs in business class
Amid pillows blankets and cookie crumbs

Metal reinforced doors to the cockpit
	Stewardess, sparing in self-defense class
	Sweating bullets with the rest

Men and women sporting lapel flags
	Recovering their lives
	 From falling innocence.

Shoes in trays through x-ray machines
ID checks 20 paces each to each
	Hand-held metal detectors
	Warning buzzers
	Flashing lights snaking across floors

	Young men in full fatigues
	Porting assault rifles
	Watching random searches
	As weak links dissolve

	To fraternity, to equality
To the memory of senseless dead
	Imploded at the Wall
	Since Liberty's wailing call.
